New Video

Inspired by a surprising burst of optimism, I rewrote the old "Cocaine Blues" in (dis)honor of John McCain. Don't forget to vote!

November Shows

I have a couple of shows scheduled in November. On the 9th, I'll be playing with Saboteur Tiger for our usual monthly gig at the Greenwich Village Bistro. Then on the 21st, Kate Giampetruzzi will be playing a set of her incredible original songs at the one and only Sunny's, with a small band. The early rehearsals have sounded amazing so I am really looking forward to this show.

October Already?

Just about. I'll be closing out September at the Greenwich Village Bistro on Sunday the 28th, playing some blues, R&B and rock&roll with Saboteur Tiger. On Friday October 3, it's bluegrass time, with Fresh Baked at the fabulous Jalopy Theater in Red Hook, Brooklyn. And on October 12, I'll be in Edison, NJ, for the release of Mara Levine's new CD, performing with her and singing some of my own songs as well. Details on the shows page.
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 3:12 PM EDT

Kings County Opry

I'll be playing some originals and a cover or two on Thursday night at the incomparable Kings County Opry. This will be the first time this year I've performed my originals onstage in New York City. But hopefully not the last. The Opry is always a great evening of good Brooklyn Country music, and there's no cover. See the shows page for details.

July and August

Is it really time to write about August already? No, let's talk about July first. On Friday, July 25, I'm going to be doing a very special show with Kate Giampetruzzi and Tone Johansen, at Sunny's in Brooklyn. They'll both be doing their original songs, which are beautiful, and I'm honored to be playing with them.

On July 27, I'll be playing blues/R&B/rock with Saboteur Tiger at the Greenwich Village Festival, and then I'll be starting off August with a gig at the 57th Annual Woodsmen's Festival in Galeton, PA. Sounds like a great time.

Late May and Early June

This weekend I have two shows coming up with songwriter Andy Mullen. He plays a lot of old-time music and his originals are strongly influenced by it. He's got a great new album out, available til the end of this month for free on his site. Andy puts on a great show, and will probably call a square dance or two. (You have no idea how much fun it can be to watch a bunch of drunk hipsters try to square dance. It's even more fun to join them.) We'll be at the fabulous Jalopy Theater in Red Hook tomorrow, May 29, at 9, and at the Parkside Lounge in the Lower East Side on Saturday, at 9:30.

Then, on June 8, I'll be taking my vintage little Fender Champ out of the closet for a rare evening of straight-up amplified blues harp, with Gordon Linzner's Saboteur Tiger, at the Greenwich Village Bistro.

Details are on the shows page. And until the end of this month, you can still hear the complete set of fourteen songs that I wrote for the February Album Writing Month project. Sometime in June, they'll be archived off the site. Some will turn up on a real album one of these days, while others may never surface again, and you'll never hear any of them again in their raw written-and-recorded-in-a-morning form. (And that might not be a bad thing!)

Fourteen February Songs

February Album Writing Month is over, and along with almost 300 others, I succeeded in writing 14 songs during the month. They range from an original fiddle tune to a dance track built with preprogrammed loops to a folk song to a children's song to a lovely collaboration inspired by the lunar eclipse. There's even a song about plastic bags. All of my songs are still online , along with everyone else's -- an absolutely amazing collection of original music.

I'll be playing some of the new songs and a few others at the end of this month at a show featuring the Belles Trio along with several other great acoustic acts. Check out the shows page for details on upcoming shows.

It's February Again...

...... which means it's February Album Writing Month. Fourteen songs in twenty-eight days, or actually 14 1/2 this year, since it's a leap year. I've already posted my first, "Saturday Night Snowing Hard," and you can track my progress on my FAWM page or, of course, right here.

Bluegrass New Year's Eve

Come celebrate New Year's Eve with Fresh Baked at the Living Room, 154 Ludlow Street. We'll be playing at 9 and there's good music and food the whole night. Details are on the shows page.

New Photos

New photos posted from a great weekend of music: the Sheriff Sessions on Saturday and the Jalopy Opry in Red Hook on Sunday.
Thursday, October 11th, 2007 2:42 PM EDT

Is It Fall Yet?

No shows coming up, but you can catch me at bluegrass jams most weekends: Saturday night at Sunny's in Red Hook and Sunday afternoon at Kili in Boerum Hill. And in the meantime you can see some photos of recent gigs or my photos of the Sheriff Sessions, Cephas and Wiggins and the New York Harmonica Ensemble.
Saturday, October 6th, 2007 9:59 AM EDT

Belles Trio

I'll be playing this coming Sunday, October 7, with the Belles Trio on Staten Island. They're an outstanding vocal group with Mara Levine, Caroline Cutroneo and Marie Elena. We'll be joined by Terry Rivel and the NJ folk duo Rusty and Jan for a mixture of original and traditional tunes. We appeared on community television earlier in the summer if you'd like to get a preview. We'll be appearing at The Cup in Stapleton; check the calendar page for details.
Tuesday, September 4th, 2007 11:45 PM EDT

September Shows

September will be a month of good shows. On the 12th, I'll be debuting my new band, the Impurists. We'll be doing some of my originals as well as a couple of Doug's, a lot of old-time fiddle tunes, and some surprising covers. No genre is safe!

Then on the 24th, I'll be breaking out the amp (a 1962 Fender Princeton, for the record) for an amplified blues gig with Saboteur Tiger, out on Staten Island.

And on Saturday the 29th, I'll be playing along with many others at the Lou-B-Q, Kate Giampetruzzi's old-time celebration in honor of her late husband Lou. Kate and Lou were a tremendous influence on me and many others in the scene and we're all looking forward to this.

Details, as always, are on the shows page, or sign up for my mailing list.

Radio Appearance Online

Today's Radio Free Eireann show, featuring performances by Mike Skliar and me, is already up on WBAI's web site. You can download the MP3 or listen to it online.

Mike's "Ballad of Rocky Sullivan's" starts at about the 38-minute mark, and my "The Whiskey Or the Wisdom" (the title song from my CD) starts about 1:26. But the whole show is worth listening to, with stories and memories about a truly special bar.
Saturday, July 28th, 2007 2:22 AM EDT

Radio Appearance

I'll be on the radio Saturday, July 28, doing a few songs on Radio Free Eireann, and later in the day playing as part of a wake for the closing of yet another New York City music venue, along with Mike Skliar. Rocky Sullivan's, the political Irish bar (or is it an Irish political bar?) run by Chris Byrne, formerly of Black 47, is closing this week. (At least, closing its original Lexington Avenue location; it's apparently reopening in besieged Red Hook.)

Radio Free Eireann is on WBAI, 99.5 FM, from 1.30 to 3 eastern time, and streams live at stream.wbai.org. The wake at Rocky's starts at 4pm, and Rocky's is on Lexington Avenue between 28th and 29th.
Tuesday, June 26th, 2007 3:21 PM EDT

Video and July Gigs

I've posted a few videos from my TV appearance with the Belles Trio earlier this month. You can see/hear me playing harmonica on a few great tunes: Terry Rivel's "A Cup Of Tea In the Morning", and the Belles' "Tree Of Life," a beautiful song whose lyrics are the names of quilting stitches, featuring vocalist Mara Levine, and "Where Do We Go From Here," a gorgeous original by Caroline Cutroneo.

I'll be playing on Staten Island and in Rosendale, NY, in July, and probably in Brooklyn as well. Watch the shows page for information or sign up for my mailing list.

A Full Musical Weekend

Lots going on this weekend: On Saturday I'm playing bluegrass with Fresh Baked at Banjo Jim's in the East Village, and I'll also be on Staten Island Community Television, with the Belles Trio and Terry Rivel -- the show we taped last week. On Sunday I'm playing with them live on Staten Island, opening for Pat Wictor. And Tuesday night I'll be on WKCR (89.9 FM) with Kate Giampetruzzi and Tone Johansen. See the shows page for details.
Wednesday, June 6th, 2007 11:11 PM EDT

Television Appearance

I'm going to be on television on Staten Island on Saturday, June 16. The Belles Trio (Mara Levine, Caroline Cutroneo and Marie Elena) and New Jersey songwriter Terry Rivel are going to be featured on a program this Saturday called "Island Hopping" (9pm on Staten Island Community Television, channel 34), and I played harmonica with them for a half-dozen songs. The Belles do beautiful harmonies on original and traditional tunes, and Terry is a great songwriter. I posted some photos of the taping to my blog.

You can also catch us live the next evening, with the great blues songwriter Pat Wictor, at The Cup on Staten Island. And, for those not able to make it out to Staten Island on Saturday night, I will be playing bluegrass with Fresh Baked at Banjo Jim's.

See the shows page for details.
Sunday, May 27th, 2007 2:13 PM EDT

Friday Night in Park Slope

I'll be playing Friday night as part of a special evening at the Good
Coffeehouse in Park Slope. Frank and Nancy Moccaldi are presenting a
show with their wide circle of musical friends, and I'll be playing
along with Kate Giampetruzzi and Tone Johansen.

Our set will only be about 20 minutes, but Kate is a marvelous
performer, and Tone a gifted singer. I'll probably sing one song of
my own, Kate will do some of her originals, Tone will grace us with a
honky-tonk tune, and we'll do some gospel songs.
Tuesday, April 3rd, 2007 7:25 PM EDT

Toronto Behind Us, April Awaits

The Toronto show was great fun, and I'll be posting photos and reviews on my journal soon. In the meantime, you can download the two traditional songs that I did during my solo set, which Marcel mentions: "Angeline the Baker," which is not the Stephen Foster song "Angelina Baker," but a later derivative; and Si Bheag Si Mhor, an Irish traditional tune.

And in April, I'll be playing bluegrass this Friday with Fresh Baked, and doing my own songs at the Kings County Opry two weeks from Thursday. Details on the shows page.
Tuesday, February 27th, 2007 9:46 AM EST

In Like a Lion

Several gigs coming up in March, most notably the tribute to Louis Giampetruzzi at the Parkside Lounge on March 11. This will be a special evening of music by many of Lou's fellow players and friends from his thirty years as a mainstay of the NYC bluegrass and old-time scene. I'll also be playing with Mike Skliar on March 22 in New York and in Toronto on March 31 and doing a blues gig at the Roadhouse with a new band, Saboteur Tiger, on March 15.
Friday, February 2nd, 2007 10:48 AM EST

February Gigs

I'll be playing several shows in February, including two with Fresh Baked, the great Brooklyn bluegrass outfit I've been playing with lately. We'll be featuring new songs at those shows, especially our February 15 appearance at the Brooklyn Winter Hoedown, which goes on all weekend and will feature many great bands. I'll also be playing February 16 with Caroline Cutroneo on Staten Island. Details are on the shows page. In March, Mike Skliar and I will be heading north to Toronto, and quite likely playing a NYC gig as well. Stay tuned.

Looking Past the 2006 Elections

I'm quite encouraged by the results of the 2006 elections, but let's not forget that this is only the beginning. My newest song, "Dear Leader," is about what might happen if we don't keep questioning bad policies and defending our right to dissent.
Sunday, September 24th, 2006 2:57 PM EDT

Modern Times and Borrowed Rhymes

Bob Dylan's new album, Modern Times, includes several instances of plagiarism, most blatantly his copying of Muddy Waters' "Rollin and Tumblin.'' (See an earlier journal post on this topic.) Dylan's defenders say that the "folk tradition" works by people borrowing and re-interpreting songs, so, in that spirit, I offer "Mr. Tampering Man," a brand-new ... original ... song.

Coming up this weekend: Three bluegrass shows -- Friday and Saturday nights, and Sunday brunch -- in Manhattan. See the calendar for details.
Monday, September 11th, 2006 4:12 PM EDT

Back at the Underground Lounge!

Mike Skliar and I will be back at the Underground Lounge on Thursday, September 21. I'll be starting off with a half-hour solo set of original songs, including some brand-new ones, at 8 pm. Mike will do a solo set of his own and at 9 we'll do a duo show. It's our first show there in almost six months, and if we get a good turnout, there'll be more. So come on down!

I'll also be at the Parkside Lounge, one of the best homes for bluegrass in New York City, on Monday, September 18, with Fresh Baked. Great bluegrass, great bar. We start at 9.30, following Blue Harvest.

Please note: I will not be playing as planned with Caroline Cutroneo on September 15, but Staten Islanders can look forward to an exciting show with Caroline, Mara Levine, me, and many others, on Saturday, September 23.

Details, as always, on the shows page.
Tuesday, September 5th, 2006 6:38 PM EDT

The Third Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival

Come down to Brooklyn's legendary Southpaw for the Third Annual Brooklyn Country Music Festival this Saturday night, September 9. It runs from 4pm until you can't run anymore, and I'll be playing with Graveyard Shift in the downstairs lounge, at 11 p.m. Lots of other great bands including Alex Battles' Whiskey Rebellion, the Demolition String Band, and more.

And on Thursday, September 21, Mike Skliar and I will be back at the Underground Lounge on the Upper West Side, playing our own songs, including my new "Hummer" and an even newer song for election season. Plus a couple of Staten Island shows if you're out that way. Details as always are on the shows page.

Please note: The tribute concert for Louis Giampetruzzi has been postponed. I'll let everyone know when the new date is decided.

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006 10:30 AM EDT

Hummer: Tired of the Stupid Truck? Download the Song!

My latest song, "Hummer," is now available for download. t's got a near-future SF ending, features the bass harmonica (what better way to evoke a lumbering Hummer?), and ... well, let's just say I'm in no danger of having it licensed for use in a GM commercial.

You can also hear it on the radio, during the Christmas Coup Comedy Player's show on WBAI (99.5 FM) next Wednesday, August 23, 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Please note: The tribute concert for Louis Giampetruzzi has been postponed. I'll let everyone know when the new date is decided. I am doing at least three other shows in September; details are on the shows page.

Louis Giampetruzzi, 1953-2006

In honor of Louis Giampetruzzi, a wonderful musician, mentor and friend, who died on Friday, July 21, after a long illness. I played many gigs with the Kate and Lou Band, and learned a lot from he and Kate both, not only about music but also about life. Peace, Lou -- you'll be with us every time we play.

Update: There will be a tribute to Lou at the Parkside Lounge on Sunday, September 10, beginning at 6 p.m. Please join us there for an evening of music and memories.
Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 12:25 PM EDT

August Getaways

I'll be posting some more new songs soon, but in the meantime I have several gigs scheduled in August, all out of town. Two shows as part of a hiking excursion organized by Outdoor Bound, and a Saturday morning and early afternoon at the farmer's market in Montclair, NJ. Check the shows page for details.

Stay tuned for NYC gigs and in the meantime don't forget that you can buy or stream my songs at the iTunes Music Store, Rhapsody, Napster and many other online music services.

Tuesday, June 13th, 2006 1:18 PM EDT

New Song

I performed a new song on Monday night at a political fundraiser: "The Scars Of Robert Moses," which some of you got to hear in an earlier version during my solo set in April. This latest addition to my NYC history canon is available for download, and more new songs will be coming in the next few weeks. My next show will be on Staten Island in early July, at the Muddy Cup.
Sunday, June 11th, 2006 7:09 PM EDT

Taking Back Congress, One Seat At A Time

Please join me at an open mic fundraiser for Congressional candidate Steve Harrison, who is seeking to oust Republicn Vito Fossella, a strong supporter of the current administration.

It's all happening Monday night, June 12, at The (formerly Muddy) Cup, 388 Van Duzer Street in Staten Island. The evening will be hosted by SI singer-songwriter Caroline Cutroneo and I'm sure a stellar cast of SI (and Brooklyn) musicians will be there. Sign-up is at 6:30 and performances are from 7-10.

One of the songs I'll be performing is "The Scars Of Robert Moses," which some of you got to hear in an earlier version during my solo set in April.
Saturday, April 22nd, 2006 11:59 AM EDT

More Shows Coming Up

The show at the Underground was great fun, and there are more to come. Mike and I will probably be back there in June, and in the meantime I'll be playing a jazz gig in Red Hook on May 13. And stay tuned for new music: I'll be recording and posting all the new songs I did at the April 21 gig over the next few weeks.
Thursday, April 20th, 2006 5:09 PM EDT

Friday Night Show

I'll be playing tomorrow night on the Upper West Side, with Mike Skliar, and for the first time I'll be opening with a half-hour solo set of some brand-new songs. Come start your weekend with some good music. Details on the shows page.
Wednesday, March 15th, 2006 7:46 AM EST

Brief Northeast Tour

For St. Patrick's Day, I'll be playing with Caroline Cutroneo on Staten Island. For Good Friday, I'll be in Toronto, Ontario, with Mike Skliar. And for the the 137th anniversary of the day the transcontinental railroad first crossed the Mississippi, I'll be on the Upper West Side, again with Mike. (That anniversary, by the way, is April 21. Golden Spike Day, when the tracks were linked all the way across the country, was on May 10, 1869.)

Saturday, February 25th, 2006 10:06 PM EST

On the Island...

Two shows coming up in Staten Island, including one on Saint Patrick's Day. See the shows page for details.

Monday, January 9th, 2006 2:26 PM EST

Gigs Coming Up

My show with Tone Johansen on January 21 has been postponed to March -- stay tuned for the exact date. I've been rehearsing with Frank and Nancy Moccaldi for our February 3 gig and I'm very excited. We'll be playing with a bunch of guests including The Fabulous Furry Harmonica Brothers -- this will be an unforgettable evening, and will likely fill up quickly, so get there early. See the shows page for more info.

Thursday, December 22nd, 2005 5:46 PM EST

Strike Song

Just as it was ending, I wrote a song about the New York City transit strike. It's still relevant, though, so listen to and/or download "A Little Bit More." I also have a number of shows coming up in January, so check the calendar.

Tuesday, December 6th, 2005 9:47 AM EST

Back Underground

Our next monthly show at the Underground Lounge will be Friday, December 16. Remember, we're there the third Friday of every month. Details on the shows page.

Sunday, October 16th, 2005 6:36 PM EDT

Regularly Underground

Our shows at the Underground Lounge have been a success, so we're going to be starting a monthly residency there. Beginning Friday, November 18, we'll be there the third Friday of every month. Details on the shows page.

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005 4:18 PM EDT

Those vague and scary terror warning blues...

Now available for download: A new song, or more accurately a rewrite of an old one, the "Homeland Security Blues." Stay tuned for more gigs and more new songs.

Wednesday, September 28th, 2005 3:55 PM EDT

Radio Play and Shows Coming Up

I was delighted that my song "Remember the Future" was played on WBAI last weekend, as part of an appearance by SF writer and friend Bill Shunn on Jim Freund's show, Hour Of the Wolf. You can hear excerpts on his site.

Meanwhile, I'll be playing another amplified blues show on Staten Island this coming Friday night, and in October, Mike Skliar and I will be back with another show on the Upper West Side. Details about all of these are on the shows page.

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005 10:00 AM EDT

Fall Shows

Lots of shows coming up as fall begins. I'll be doing another Connecticut gig with Pat Wictor this coming weekend. The last one was a blast. Then next week, if you can stay up late on a Wednesday night, you'll get to see Tone Johansen's spectacular set of Norwegian jazz and folk tunes. She first did this back in March and it was unbelievable. And in October, Mike Skliar and I will be back with another show on the Upper West Side. Details about all of these are on the shows page.

Thursday, September 1st, 2005 1:12 PM EDT

A Couple Of Far-Flung Shows

I'll be playing Saturday night on Staten Island with James Brennan and a few other local musicians, in my first electric blues-rock show since, I believe, February, 2002. I'll also be playing an acoustic set with Pat Wictor at another Connecticut county fair next weekend. Details on the shows page.

Sunday, August 14th, 2005 1:33 PM EDT

New Song

A new song, "She Loved Me Sometimes," is available for download. Stay tuned for a gig announcement, probably the second week of September.

Friday, August 12th, 2005 6:41 AM EDT

The gig at the agricultural fair went very well. No other gigs scheduled for August, but I will have some new songs posted later this month.

Thursday, July 21st, 2005 9:51 PM EDT

Tractor Pulls and Good Music

I've sat in with blues songwriter Pat Wictor at a few of his gigs, and I'll be playing the Connecticut Agricultural Fair with him next Friday, the 29th. I'll be joining him on the side stage along with Mara Levine, a vocalist whose harmonies have blown me away at a number of shows recently, and percussionist Cheryl Prashker.

Pat is an extraordinary songwriter who plays beautiful lap slide guitar, doing songs that are firmly rooted in the blues but entirely original. He's also one of the only people (aside from John Cephas) who can cover Skip James, the deepest of the Mississippi blues singers, successfully. Pat is a great musician and a good guy and I'm very happy to be playing with him.

Thursday, July 14th, 2005 5:32 PM EDT

Thanks as always to everyone who came out for our second gig at the Underground. We are hoping to turn that into a regular monthly show in the fall, so stay tuned. Nothing scheduled in NYC at the moment, although various gigs in the tristate area are in the works. I'll also have several new songs to post later this month.

Friday, June 24th, 2005 5:16 PM EDT

Back at the Underground Lounge

Mike Skliar and I had a great gig at the Underground Lounge on the Upper West Side last month, and we'll be back there on Tuesday, July 12. The Underground Lounge is a downstairs venue at the southwest corner of 107th Street and West End Avenue (where Broadway meets West End). It started as a coffee house in the late 90's, and now features music and comedy events every night. It's a small friendly space with comfortable seating and friendly wait staff, and also has a (small) outdoor terrace, so it's one of the few places in Manhattan where you can drink and smoke. We will be playing in the back room, and there's no cover charge, although there is a two-drink minimum. As usual we'll have some new songs, some old songs, and some surprises, intentional and otherwise.

Tuesday, May 31st, 2005 10:59 AM EDT

First NYC show in three months!

Mike Skliar and I have finally scheduled our first New York City gig since March. We'll be playing on the Upper West Side, at the Underground Lounge. Mike started playing there years ago, but this is the first time we'll play there as a duo. It's a friendly bar, with some food as well, on the corner where Broadway meets West End Avenue. It started as a coffee house in the late 90's, and now features music and comedy events every night. It also has a (small) outdoor terrace, so its one of the few places in Manhattan where you can drink and smoke. We will be playing in the back room, and there's no cover charge. Complete details are on the shows page.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2005 11:55 AM EDT

Bootlegged!

Well, for the first time, I've been bootlegged. Some folks on the Dylan Pool web site, who've been discussing our show in Toronto last week, have posted two nice soundboard recordings: one of Mike Ford, of the great Canadian band Moxy Früvous, singing a beautiful version of Dylan's "I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine" with Mike Skliar on dobro and me on harmonica, and my version of "Stupid Is the New Smart" with Mike Skliar on dobro.

Separately, while in Toronto I was able to catch a lecture by Brian Eno, and wrote a long journal post about it.
Thursday, April 21st, 2005 9:57 AM EDT

Another New Song!

Mike and I are looking forward to our gig in Toronto tomorrow, and hope to schedule some NYC dates in May. In the meantime, there are two new songs for download: "Cloud Of Ink," a song about communication (or the lack of it) is brand new on the site, and "Stupid Is the New Smart" is still available.
Saturday, April 2nd, 2005 4:56 PM EST

New Song Available For Download

"Stupid Is the New Smart" is available for download at last, the first of what I hope will be a half-dozen new songs that I'll be recording and putting up over the next few weeks.

Also please note: The Second Saturday with Kate and Lou for April 9 has been cancelled.

Thursday, March 24th, 2005 10:54 AM EST

The usual Second Saturday at Sunny's with Kate and Lou is coming up on April 9, but other than that I'll be concentrating on recording some new songs between now and the show in Toronto. "Stupid Is the New Smart" will probably be on the download page in the next week or so, and I'll be working on recording my other new songs as well.

On Wednesday, March 24, I played a short set of Norwegian songs with Tone Johansen at Sunny's. She held a crowded bar spellbound singing songs most people couldn't understand -- beautiful jazzy songs. We'll be doing more of these shows, I hope, so watch for them.

And don't forget, my CD Whiskey, Wisdom and Song is still available for sale.

Sunday, March 20th, 2005 11:10 AM EST

The Sheriff Sessions show went very well last night, and it's worth pointing out that aside from the annual November spectacular, the Sheriff is now putting shows on once a month at the Baggott Inn, and you can also hear him with the Radio Band (who followed us last night) on WKCR every Tuesday night at 9.30.

I'll be playing again with Kate and Lou for our usual Second Saturday at Sunny's Bar in Red Hook on April 9, but other than that I'll largely be focusing on some recording projects and getting ready for the Toronto gig with Mike.

Monday, March 14th, 2005 10:35 AM EST

Thanks to everyone who came down to my show with Mike Skliar at the Parkside -- we had a great time and we hope you did too. If anyone didn't get a CD, you can buy them online. We haven't scheduled any New York City shows between now and our Toronto gig in late April, but we will be in the studio working on a duo CD including all-new songs from both of us.

Saturday night I'll be playing with Kate and Lou again, as part of a special Sheriff Sessions show. This show is in a much more accessible location than Red Hook: the Baggott Inn, on 3rd Street in the Village. If you've never seen Kate and Lou, you have no idea what you're missing, and following us will be the Radio Band, featuring an all-star lineup of NYC roots players. Details and directions on the shows page.

A Very Special Valentine's Day

The Valentine's Day gig with Kate and Lou was wonderful, with a great crowd in one of New York's best places for live music. The setting and the audience led Lou to call an audible on the set list, opening up with several of his best romantic jazz ballads, rather than kicking things off with a bang by doing a fast Cajun or bluegrass number. Playing with them is always a joy but this was a particularly nice evening.

On to March gigs! I'll be playing with Kate and Lou for our usual Second Saturday at Sunny's, March 12, and then Mike Skliar and I will have our debut gig at the Parkside on Sunday, March 13. Details on the shows page.

Two Shows With Kate and Lou

Several gigs coming up with the Kate and Lou Band in February, which are sure to be great sets. Playing with these folks is an extraordinary experience. Plus, in April, Mike Skliar and I will be doing our first North American Tour, or, at least, doing a gig in Canada. We hope to add a New York City date between now and then, so stay tuned. Details are on the Shows page. Coming soon: my solo CD, for sale right here!
